Wing Luke Incident

Yesterday, September 14th, Tsuru for Solidarity joyfully invited our organizational leaders and community members to the Wing Luke Museum to tour Resisters: A Legacy Of Movement From The Japanese American Incarceration. This wonderful exhibit highlights decades of resistance and political activism in our community, including Tsuru for Solidarity and our members, and it was going to be the celebratory kick-off for an organizational retreat.

Just as our tours started, we were interrupted by loud noises and saw a man using a sledgehammer to smash windows at the museum and yelling anti-Asian statements. We are grateful to our members and to the Wing Luke staff for immediately addressing the situation, de-escalating, and keeping those at the program safe. Tsuru for Solidarity leaders and staff pivoted to support community members and Wing Luke staff who were involved. Unfortunately, given the violent nature of the situation, the police were called.

Please look out for ways to support the Wing Luke as they rebuild physically and emotionally. We are continuing on with our retreat this weekend. We will respond more fully in the coming days and weeks
